Earlier this year Karen achieved one of her biggest post-Doctor Who roles yet when she landed the lead role in her very own US sitcom. Entitled Selfie, the series premiered on ABC in September and follows the life and times of Eliza Dooley, a 20-something who pays more attention to her online persona than her professional image. But when a video of her public and humiliating break up goes viral, she must enlist the help of arrogant marketing expert Henry, played by John Cho, to overhaul her tarnished image. Described as "My Fair Lady with a modern twist", the series has performed admirably in the US ratings, despite facing stiff competition. However, it was unceremoniously cancelled earlier this month, with its remaining unaired episodes due to be premiered online via Hula over the coming weeks. Its unfortunate fate aside, Selfie has largely helped to boost Karen's profile in the US, with appearances on popular shows Jimmy Kimmel and Good Morning America now under her belt. You know what they say. It's better to have had and lost a sitcom, than to never have had a sitcom at all. They say that, right? Hashtag SADFACE. Happy Birthday to Karen Gillan.
