Doctor Who: 10 Things We Want To See In 'The Day Of The Doctor'

1. Foreshadowing Of Christmas

Finally, it doesn€™t seem very fair that David Tennant got a whole series of specials to pre-empt his demise and all Matt Smith has had yet is a sentence of vague concern when Dorium hinted at the €˜fall of the eleventh€™ and the presence of his eventual final resting place in 'The Name of the Doctor'. Series 6 of course centred on the Doctor trying to avoid and eventually faking his own final non-regeneration death, but he currently seems completely oblivious to the fact he is only a couple of on-screen hours away from a regeneration. Now, the shock factor of not knowing he was due a change could make a great few minutes of telly as he failed to accept it, but David Tennant managed to pull off a mini-series worth of great episodes with the added weight of impending, unavoidable doom added to his popular version of the character. The 50th is the writing team's chance to at least lay some groundwork. Hints from other characters that his days are numbered, stubborn claims that this body has a few years left in it yet, etc. It would seem harsh if Smith€™s regeneration story arc was rushed through in one episode, so here€™s hoping that the Moff has some brooding foreshadowing up his sleeve for the 50th. As stressed at the start of this piece, Steven Moffat has an even harder job than usual pulling off this episode. While I'm sure we won€™t see all of the ideas written here in the 50th, we€™ll probably see some of them, and certainly a whole lot more we couldn€™t have predicted €“ which is better, surely? The show is all about mysteries and impossible things, and I for one would love to have the rug pulled out from underneath me again. With one month to go and a proper trailer due to drop soon, it€™s not too long now until we might actually get some answers!
