Doctor Who: All 17 Series 7 Episodes & Special Ranked
3. The Crimson Horror - Mark Gatiss
With The Crimson Horror, the revived series of Doctor Who reached 100 episodes, and it was a great way to spend it. With the interesting decision to have Vastra, Jenny and Strax as the main focus of the episode, Mark Gatiss does what he does best and gives us a hammer horror-esque tale of purity and small red leeches. You have to suspend your disbelief a bit to believe that the rocket could have been built in those times but other than that it's another solid script from Gatiss. Dame Diana Rigg and Rachel Stirling are excellent as Mrs. Gillyflower and Ada, Gillyflower being a classic mad villain with an interesting motive. Jenny gets more time to show off in this episode, as she goes off investigating inside the "factory", and I for one hope to see more of her and Vastra develop over the coming years. Strax again is used mainly for comic relief but it still isn't old, him simply behaving like a typical Sontaran is still brilliant, and all three bouncing off each other really works. Just one gripe: the sat-nav joke... really?!
Jake lives in a small town in England with nothing much to do besides watch far too much television, play games and occasionally have a cup of tea. His favourite things to do are play the guitar and eat scones. Follow him at @_jakelennon if you wish.
