Doctor Who: All 17 Series 7 Episodes & Special Ranked
2. Asylum Of The Daleks - Steven Moffat
What a way to start a series: in an attempt to make the Daleks scary again we got Asylum of the Daleks, a wonderful Dalek story, and an episode that set up themes that would continue through the series. The Asylum itself was an eery enough setting, throwing in damaged and insane Daleks really did the trick though. Sure there weren't as many classic Daleks as one would have hoped but at least we saw a brief glimpse of the Special Weapons Dalek. The main point of this episode was to introduce us to Oswin/Clara, and truly shocked us all when the new companion appeared in the 1st episode. Then it turned out she was a Dalek, and then she got blown up - it certainly got us all talking that's for sure. My major gripe about this episode is the divorce subplot that appeared out of nowhere: the only background we got to this was the final episode of Pond Life, and even then it wasn't that fleshed out and kind of an unnecessary addition to the episode. The Dalek servants were also chilling, the eye stalk cracking out of the skull is really a terrifying sight.
Jake lives in a small town in England with nothing much to do besides watch far too much television, play games and occasionally have a cup of tea. His favourite things to do are play the guitar and eat scones. Follow him at @_jakelennon if you wish.
