Doctor Who: All 17 Series 7 Episodes & Special Ranked

9. The Bells Of St. John - Steven Moffat

This episode had a hard job, it had to introduce Clara for the third time, provide a good story for her to be involved in, and convince audiences that Clara is a worthy companion. For what it sets out to do, it does it well, with the plot falling a bit flat at times. The big bad of the "spoonheads" and the sentient WiFi perhaps isn't as scary as it's meant to be, and doesn't provide much of a threat. Saying that, the scene in which the Doctor and Clara stop the plane from crashing into the street is excellent. Clara is fine too, but all the way through the episode I had a nagging feeling that I would be preferring this a whole lot more if it was Victorian Clara. It could have been so interesting and unique to have a historical companion in new who but once again we have a modern day girl from London. She also doesn't do much besides hacking the computer and drinking tea but Coleman and Smith do have excellent chemistry. It's not bad by far, but could have had a bit more oomph.
