Doctor Who: 25 Actors Who'd Make Great Companions

22. James Corden

Another actor who's already appeared in the show is James Corden, as the ever-popular Craig. Whether Alfie would travel with him or not is unsure - maybe the Doctor could take Craig along when Alfie's a bit older - but Corden's a fantastic actor who would be brilliant as a full-time companion. Whether he's funny or not seems to divide people, but there's no denying he has an everyman quality about him that contrasts well against a Time Lord, and if he got as enthusiastic about adventure as his character Phil does, in The Wrong Mans, he'd be incredibly popular with fans. It might also be nice to see him write an episode; Gavin and Stacey was brilliant, after all.

21. Emilia Clarke

A face that's already known both sides of the Atlantic, Emilia Clarke is a young actress tipped for huge things. Already a regular in Game of Thrones, She's young, mercurial and mysterious. She's definitely in the mould of a traditional companion, as she can play feisty and fearless, and she would definitely draw Game of Thrones into watching Doctor Who. As well as stagework she's done in America, she's signed up for the new Terminator film, out next year; it looks like a Hollywood career beckons.
