4. Leela In The Face of Evil
Imagine sitting down to watch the newest Fourth Doctor episode. The previous episode had been The Deadly Assassin, and Sarah Jane had just left prior to that in The Hand of Fear. So who was going to be the new companion, when there was no companion featured in The Deadly Assassin? Her name was Leela, and the Doctor came across her in The Face of Evil. He offered her a jelly baby and her most memorable lines in the episode are: "It's true. They do say the evil one eats babies." Leela's nickname from the Doctor was "Savage." She wore very little clothing. Her outfits most of the time were almost like a Native American dress, but very short and revealing, but leather, and with knee high boots. It had the primitive look, and she was very good with the knives, and she would always carry one with her. This costume is probably the most popular of the costuming world. I have lost count as to how many Leela versions I have seen at conventions. It is a sharp outfit and revealing as well. This goes to show how the costumes branched out in the show. The costumes they designed for the companion usually went along with their character's storyline. Leela was from a more primitive surrounding, thus she was prone to dress more like she was used to.
