Planet of the Spiders, the Third Doctor returns to the Crystal Caves of Metebellis 3 to help stop the Eight Legs once and for all. He is told repeatedly by his allies "you will die if you return to the caves, and each time the Doctor stoically replies nevertheless, I must go. The Doctor returns a great crystal to the Great One of the Eight Legs, warning her that her plan will ultimately destroy her. True to his warning, The Great One destroys herself, and The Doctor must return to earth knowing that he he has taken in a fatal amount of radiation from the Crystal Caves.
