Doctor Who: 10 Dropped Plot Threads We'll Never Get The Answer To

1. So What Is The Doctor's Name?

For season 7, Moffat decided to make the show's very title a major plot point as the answer to the 50 year old question "Doctor Who?" was teased to be coming. After all, River Song was revealed to know what his name was back in 2008's 'Silence in the Library.' Would she finally share it with the class?

This came to a head in 'The Time of the Doctor', when it was explained that the Doctor needed to say his real name to let the Time Lords return to the universe. However, Clara was able to convince the Gallifreyans to give up their quest and grant the Doctor some more regenerations without the need for his name.

And so the arc was no more, with the central question of the show slipping back into the background. This probably proves that we'll never find out the Doctor's real name - and maybe, just this once, that's for the best. In any case, the Twelfth Doctor probably summed it up best in his final speech:

"Oh, and you mustn't tell anyone your name. No one would understand it, anyway. Except children. Children can hear it sometimes. If their hearts are in the right place, and the stars are too, children can hear your name. But nobody else. Nobody else, ever."

What other major plot threads that were dropped from Doctor Who still bug you? Have your say in the comments.
