4. It's Okay To Wear A TieScreen Shot 2013-08-10 at 2.21.58 AM In the post-series 2 Christmas specials, viewers get their first glimpses of the goings-on of the Opposition party. Peter Mannion--Hugh's Opposition counterpart--spends a healthy amount of his screen time being criticized by his much younger aides for being old-fashioned. The major point of contention is Peter's necktie, which his coworkers abuse as outdated and unappealing. Although obviously on a grander scale, Doctor Who faces the same metaphorical problem. Approaching its 50th birthday, it can be argued that certain aspects ought to be changed or modernized, as occurred with the revamped TARDIS following Ten's explosive regeneration into Eleven. Still, not everything needs to be redone or updated with every new series or every new Doctor. It's okay to wear a tie, Doctor Who. If Peter Mannion can do it, anyone can do it. Just ask Ten and Eleven.
