Doctor Who: 10 More Characters We Want To See Return

6. Christina De Souza

Doctor Who The Rani Captain Jack Harkness
BBC

Played by Bionic Woman star Michelle Ryan, Christina made a formidable one-off companion to the Tenth Doctor in Planet of the Dead. She was the Catwoman to the Doctor’s Batman, a morally ambiguous character whose unashamed criminality called into question the Doctor’s own ethics. It’s probably his refusal to see a little bit of himself in Christina that led to the Doctor turning her down as a companion. Both characters are rebels by choice and not necessity, and both are on the run from their own people, making their enforced companionship quite unique.

But despite denying her a place in the TARDIS, the Doctor couldn’t quite leave her to be detained by the authorities. Using his sonic screwdriver to unlock her handcuffs, the Doctor facilitates Christina’s escape in the flying bus. What a way to go. But where she went and what happened to the flying bus is anyone’s guess.

Christina’s parting shot “We could have been so good together,” was met with an unrepentant: “We already were.” The rebellious aristocrat grated with some viewers, but there are plenty who would agree with Christina’s assessment. If she did ever meet the Doctor again, there would certainly be fireworks and great entertainment value in the unique dynamic between them.
