Doctor Who: 10 Most Compelling Series 9 Fan Theories

3. There Will Be A Multi-Master Story!

Now we've made it to the top three fan theories, it's time for some great ideas to come out of the woodwork - fans have the best ideas (sometimes, anyway). How about this for a cracking basis for a story? Feature more than one Master!

Having multiple incarnations of the Doctor share screen time together is old hat now, but it's never been done with the Doctor's arch-enemy! Obviously, there are issues with so many of the actors who've played past Masters being sadly deceased. However, Derek Jacobi and John Simm are both still alive, and they're the Masters the modern "new-to-Who" audience is most familiar with. Jacobi and Simm teaming up with Michelle Gomez would be nothing short of "bananas!"

So, how likely is this? Disappointingly, having Jacobi and Simm return for Series 9 seems impossible - they would've been spotted during filming.  However, there's nothing to prevent a brief "flashback" scene from being included in the series, showing perhaps the fate of Simm's Master and the reason for his change in gender.

As long as the scene is relatively short, it could have been completed in secrecy (no one knew Paul McGann was returning for his regeneration minisode, so such a surprise has been achieved before), and showing past events on Gallifrey could be part of a season-long story arc.
