Doctor Who: 10 Most Compelling Series 9 Fan Theories

2. Gallifrey Returns!

Fan theories about Simm's Master returning are fuelled by the reasonably likely prospect of Gallifrey being "rescued" at the end of Series 9. Events seem to have been building to this finale for a long time. Also, it has to be said, now that the Daleks are free of the Time War, having the Time Lords still stuck somewhere seems mean-spirited.

The fan theories insist that the Moffatt-penned two-part season finale will see the Doctor enter a tomb under the Time Lord Citadel on Gallifrey. In some way, even, if it's not permanent, Gallifrey will return!

What evidence is there for this theory? Well, the slate for episode 12 sported Gallifreyan characters. You can't get a hint much bigger than that!

Of course, Doctor Who does like to do tragedy, and there couldn't be a more tragic ending for the season than for the Doctor to no sooner find Gallifrey than lose it again. I, for one, would like the Doctor's home planet to not only be found, but to stay found. The Daleks can't be the winners of the Time War - that's just not fair.
