Doctor Who: 10 Most Disappointing Concluding Episodes

7. Death In Heaven

The best bits of Death in Heaven were the bits between Danny and Seb in the Nethersphere. Which was bizarre and fascinating. Death in Heaven literally kills off these bits so that billions of Cybermen can stand around impotently like every other Earth invasion finale to date. Missy was built up through the series by tacking on a minute of her nodding evilly to most episodes, rather than any actual character development. Danny was realised better in the sense that a few minutes was tacked on and he got a bit part occasionally in an episode. Death in Heaven fails primarily because it focuses on these two characters so poorly handled that fans were sick of them before the episode even started. It would be like if before the Dark Knight aired and there was ten weeks of trailers you needed to watch featuring Christian Bale doing pig noises into a megaphone. It doesn€™t matter how good it is if you already hate everybody in it. Dark Water worked because it was grim and odd, with €œdon€™t cremate me€ and the Heaven-Office elements. Death in Heaven is a Russell T Davies-formula finale but with two characters who couldn€™t be more hateful if they reached through the screen and licked the inside of your ear. So close but yet so far.
