Doctor Who: 10 Most Fascinating Characters Of Series 8

1. The Doctor

Change is never an easy thing. The passing of the mantle to a new Doctor is fraught with unearned criticism and insecurity. Part of the audience will hate you just on principle before you ever take the stage. Another part will cry foul when you don€™t meet their specific expectations. The trick is to ignore all of that and create a performance based solely on the needs of the character. The best Doctors honor the past while committing to moving the Doctor€™s story forward. Peter Capaldi is a fan who recognizes the danger of stagnation. His Doctor is a man in flux - a being who is scarred by experience but refuses to remain mired in long ago events. Peter Capaldi is an exemplary Doctor because of his flaws not in spite of them. He understands that a person who has lived this many life times must carry a great weight but must also learn to bear it with grace. No matter how weak the story or lame the dialogue is at times, Capaldi€™s Doctor commands the screen in every scene. He is riveting to watch and not only the most fascinating person of series eight but also one of the most intriguing leading men from the 2014 television season.
