Doctor Who: 10 Most-Viewed Scenes On YouTube Ranked Worst To Best

6. Speech To Akhaten (The Rings Of Akhaten)

One thing that Doctor Who is known for is its epic speeches, and we've had many great ones to choose from over the years, delivered by various Doctors. It would almost feel wrong if one of them didn't make this list, but luckily, the Eleventh Doctor has us covered with his monster of a speech from The Rings Of Akhaten.

The Rings Of Akhaten is a standout episode in Series 7, and this is its standout moment. Here, the Doctor confronts an enormous parasite known as Akhaten, and - realising that it feeds on memories and feelings - begins to tell it a story.

What follows is an absolute show-stopper of a speech, with the Doctor describing the immense pain and loss he's experienced throughout his long life. Eventually, the sheer weight of this proves too much for Akhaten, and the creature begins to collapse.

The scene is bursting with emotion and gorgeous visuals, and everything is elevated significantly by Murray Gold's stunning music track, The Long Song. This isn't Smith's best speech, but it's close, and on the whole, it's good to see the fickle YouTube algorithm giving The Rings Of Akhaten some love.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
