3. What Didn't Kill Her Made Her Stronger
It's safe to say that every NuWho companion has been the subject of a heartbreaking departure (Donna Noble, anyone?) but many would agree that Rose Tyler's was more traumatic that most. Her original one was, anyway. No sooner than she had vowed to never leave the Tenth Doctor's side, they were cruelly ripped apart when she ended up becoming trapped in a parallel universe forevermore. Damn. It wasn't all bad news, of course, as she luckily had her family - including the alternative version of her deceased father - in tow, however even that wasn't enough to convince Rose to give up without a fight. Never one to take no for an answer, Rose promptly embarked on a personal mission to return to our world and it was admirable, really, that she still had the determination to do it after everything she'd been through. The word "feisty" is one of the most overused adjectives when describing one of the Doctor's companions but Rose Tyler more than qualifies. What didn't kill her only made her stronger and her courageousness kept her fighting for what she wanted - no matter how impossible it seemed. She wasn't even put out when she finally did manage to transport herself through the void and subsequently experienced several failed attempts to locate the Doctor. It must've been frustrating to have come so close yet still be so far but Rose took it all in her stride which made their eventual reunion - and the fact the Doctor was subsequently shot dead by a Dalek during - all the more beautifully tragic. She eventually got her very own human Doctor, of course, so everything worked out for the best in the end.
