Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Why The Third Doctor Is The Best Ever
6. The First Master
Any Doctor is measured by his enemies and the standout foe amongst the Third Doctors opponents is easy to identify. It's the original and the best Master, Roger Delgado. The Master was conceived of as the Doctors Moriarty and Delgado played him as a charming, suave Bond villain. Yes, he was evil. Yes, he murdered, and, of course, he wanted to conquer the Earth. However, he was perhaps the most likeable super villain ever. If anyone was going to enslave humanity, then youd hope it would be him. He was just as striking as the Doctor but in an opposing way. He wore black, minimalist clothing and sported neat dark hair and the classic villain beard with rakish grey streaks. He was so popular that he was brought back again and again. Delgado asked that the Masters story arc be brought to a definitive end in a story entitled The Final Game. Delgados tragic death in a car accident robbed us of that finale. Other Doctors have since faced incarnations of the Master. The Skeletor versions - Anthony Ainley, Eric Roberts, Sir Derek Jacobi and John Simm - all gave it a good shot but Delgado was just Master(flu). Michelle Gomez is so far the second best Master/Missy ever. Perhaps Series 9 may even see her challenge the great Delgado himself.
Older than some and taller than most. Grey of eye and white of beard.
Stephen's book 'Hiding', about a boy who meets a goblin in a local wood, is available to download from the usual places. Think of it as a scavenger hunt.
