Doctor Who: 10 Theories About What Happens To The Fourteenth Doctor

A whole other Doctor is currently knocking about on Earth. Just what is he getting up to?

Doctor Who’s big 60th birthday present was bi-generation – a whole new way of understanding the show’s central character, which allows their various incarnations to carry on existing in a Marvel-style “Doctorverse”.

This seismic development has, supposedly, affected all of the Doctors. But the first to be experiencing it from our perspective is the Fourteenth, who now resides with the Nobles (and occasionally “mad aunty Mel”) in Chiswick.

Given that he’s still around on present-day Earth, it would be exceedingly easy for the Fourteenth Doctor to return. However, both RTD and David Tennant have insisted that nothing is on the cards, with the former insisting that “David is parked and retired and it’s all Ncuti’s show now”.

Sure enough, aside from a throwaway reference to Rose’s “uncle”, the Fourteenth Doctor was completely absent from Season One. And going forward, it seems unlikely we’re going to be catching up with him again any time soon. Which means it’s up to us to speculate about what he does next.

This Doctor may have only had three stories on screen. But when it comes to the rest of his life, the possibilities are endless...

If it’s a bit of extraterrestrial action the Fourteenth Doctor is after, the easy option would be to stay on Earth and let the aliens come to him, as he did during his exile in the '70s (or was it the '80s?). He could even resume his role as UNIT’s scientific advisor.

On the one hand, UNIT does seem to have had a glut of scientific advisors recently. In the last year alone we’ve been introduced to Shirley Anne Bingham and Morris Gibbons. And presumably Osgood and Malcolm are still kicking around somewhere too.

But on the other, Kate would no doubt find him a position somewhere if he asked for it.

Kate seems to offer everyone a job these days. She’s already extended invitations to all of the Companion Support Group and Susan Triad, and seems to have no problem recruiting literal children either.

Kate also managed to persuade Donna to work at UNIT, granting her a £120K salary and five weeks’ holiday on the basis that she could identify a simple arpeggio. What’s to say the Fourteenth Doctor didn’t join her? He'd absolutely love the chance to work alongside his best mate. And UNIT might need a bit more help with the Sea Devils in The War Between the Land and the Sea.
