Doctor Who: 10 Things Fans Want From Series 9 (But Won't Get)

2. Captain Jack

Doctor Who Captain Jack Harkness John Barrowman
BBC

Ever since his first appearance, in the rather brilliant (if absolutely terrifying; seriously, those gas-mask kids...) two parter The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances, John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness has had a special place in the hearts of Whovians.

He's funny, he's charming, he kicks-ass, does things the Doctor can't (or won't) do, and he's immortal. What's not to like? From his appearances in Who alongside the Ninth and Tenth Doctors, to leading the spin-off Torchwood, he's become one of the most enduring and popular characters in the Who universe since its 2005 revival.

However, he hasn't appeared in Doctor Who since David Tennant's finale, The End of Time, and not at all since Torchwood Miracle Day ended in 2011. With his regular role on Arrow Barrowman may not have too much time for a return, but I'm sure they could work something out, and it's way past time that Captain Jack returned to our screens.
