Doctor Who: 10 Things That Must Happen In Series 10

6. A Mix Of Standalones And Two-Parters

Doctor Who Series 10
BBC

One thing that has defined Moffat's era of Doctor Who is his fondness for shaking up the format of the show. The showrunner is always talking about how he likes to keep every season fresh and one of the ways he does that is to change the structure of the series every year. For instance, Series 6 and 7 experimented with splitting the run into two. Additionally, Series 7 also removed the traditional two-parters from the mix. However, they returned with a vengeance come Series 9 when just about every story was a two-parter.

While Moffat's aim to keep the show fresh is a pure one, his methods have had mixed results. In particular, the long run of single-episodes only meant that many stories suffered from being too concise and contracted. Series 9 was the most successful run in years for allowing the stories to breathe, but on a couple of occasions the added runtime didn't actually benefit the tale.

We're not yet sure what format Series 10 will take but let's hope it returns to the days of a mixed structure - some standalones and some two-parters - as it allows for the best of both worlds.
