2. More Influences From Classic Who
Like Russel T Davies and Steven Moffat, Chris Chibnall is another showrunner who is a big fan of the classic era. He was clearly a fan of the Silurians, resurrecting the reptilian race in Matt Smith's first series and then having a big influence on Dinosaurs On A Spaceship. But what some audiences might not know is that he was also part of the Doctor Who Appreciation Society, appearing on BBC discussion programme Open Air in 1986 to discuss the quality of the programme at the time. Chibnall has a keen awareness of the show's entire 50+ year history and as such we can expect to some of the influences from the classic era reflected in his own tenure on the show. Given the SIlurian influence and his Power Of Three which truly cemented the modern UNIT family with the arrival of Kate Stewart, can we expect ties to the Pertwee era? Or given that two of his five stories have been spent on spaceships, will he be looking further afield to the far flung galaxies explored in the Troughton and Tom Baker eras? References to the past started off slow in Davies' era and expanded under Moffat; expect this trend to continue under Chibnall.
