Doctor Who: 10 Things To Expect From Chibnall's First Series

3. A Blend Of The Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat Eras?

Russell T Davies' era was a fast paced set of series, each largely self contained that perfectly suited Doctor Who for a modern audience. Steven Moffat kept the fast paced modern television style but brought in more complex story arcs, some that ran for a number of years. So what will Chris Chibnall's Doctor Who looked like? Don't expect anything radically different. Doctor Who runs a little differently than it did in the classic era; four or six-part stories wouldn't quite work with today's audience. Things are likely to be a little simpler, a return to Davies' more singular stories and a sense of lighthearted fun compared to the heavy drama of Moffat's era. But expect some Moffat influences too; in Broadchurch Chibnall took a singular series storyline and cleverly spun it out in a surprising new direction for series two. And with a third year, expect more surprises still to come. Fast paced adventure, series-long arcs but with the potential for some stories to play the longer game into series 12 and beyond; Chibnall's era is likely to be a happy blend of the two that proceeded it.
