Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Went Too Far
1. A Good Man Goes To War
Series 6’s glorious mid-series finale sees the Eleventh Doctor doing away with the 'madman with a box' persona, and becoming something far more dangerous – a general with an army.
Amy is being held by the Silence at Demon’s Run, about to give birth to River, and the Doctor and Rory stop at nothing to get her back. With an assembled army of Silurians, Judoon, Sontarans, pirates, and, for some reason, Mark Gatiss in a Spitfire, he wages war on the station, and emerges victorious.
He may have done so without spilling a drop of blood, but what comes after is far from virtuous, as we see Eleven unleash his anger at Madame Kovarian and Colonel Manton, forcing Manton to brand himself as Colonel Runaway.
But the real clincher comes in the closing moments, as River explains why all of this has happened, and why Lorna Bucket is so convinced that the Doctor is a warrior.
He’s thrown his name around so much, showcased his power throughout the galaxy to such an extent, that now people are rising up in fear of him. People think he's a god – an almighty creature that nobody can stop.
It's indicative of the fact that the Doctor has kinda been going too far ever since he fled Gallifrey all those years ago, with his centuries of travel now finally catching up with him.
Maybe the Time Lords were onto something with that whole 'non-intervention' policy after all...
