Doctor Who: 10 Worst Episodes Of The Decade

8. The Ghost Monument (2018)

The opening episode of Series 11 was a solid start for Jodie Whittaker. As well as giving us plenty of insight into the new characters, it also contained plenty of intrigue throughout. Unfortunately, ‘The Ghost Monument’ was a disappointing follow-up.

Despite an interesting premise, the execution is poor. The episode doesn’t really get going for a good twenty-five minutes, and even then, the story is let down by some strange story beats.

Ryan’s brief attempt to take down a group of armed robots, for instance, is simply stupid rather than entertaining, and the ending is far too rushed and convenient to be taken seriously. Indeed, the Doctor’s recovery of the TARDIS is particularly nonsensical.

In fairness, the episode is worth persevering with if only to see the new interior of the TARDIS, but the rest of this adventure is a disappointment after the Thirteenth Doctor’s first episode.
