Doctor Who: 10 Worst Episodes Of The Decade
4. Sleep No More (2015)
‘Sleep No More’ is one of the rare instances in which a Doctor Who episode is simply boring.
The secondary characters have some unremarkable dialogue that becomes wearisome very quickly. Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi are as good as ever, but their performances are constantly interrupted by the forgettable supporting cast.
Moreover, the episode has an irritating habit of interspersing the plot with pieces of narration. These moments do nothing to benefit the story and – if anything – only dilute the already weak atmosphere.
The episode’s frequent use of security-camera footage and the first-person viewpoint are also annoying – though the latter is at least linked to the plot. Far from adding to the atmosphere, both these techniques take the audience out of the story still further.
After forty-five minutes of these bizarre filming methods and the lacklustre dialogue, it’s fair to say the end of ‘Sleep No More’ is a welcome relief.
