Doctor Who: 10 Writers Who Should Never, Ever Return

7. Helen Raynor

When it's looking for a writer to stay away from Doctor Who, Helen Raynor should be on top of your list. For one, she€™s the only woman to have ever contributed in as many as four episodes which have been wildly successful, let alone be the only writer to have introduced the oddly weird yet brilliant Sontarans to NuWho. It's nothing worth appreciating, really. Second, her stories made too much sense. It€™s not at all intriguing to have a writer think up something as unique as a Dalek-human hybrid, followed by a great lot of supporting characters. Of course, there are even worse stories to her name (a.k.a. the disaster that was the Series 4 two-parter The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky). It was a shame to see Martha€™s character development turn her into an independent and courageous individual, working for UNIT and for a brief period, Torchwood. It was a bigger shame to have to admire the redesign of the Sontarans and be given one hell of a ride before the next part. Nobody likes that sort of stuff, which clearly explains the limitation on female writers involved in the series.
