The original NuWho companion, Billie Piper's Rose was the down-to-earth London girl who helped 2005 audiences find a relatable avenue into the wacky world of Doctor Who, and without her, the show wouldn't have been as successful as it was.

After the first series, Piper stuck around for one more - swapping out the Ninth Doctor for the Tenth - and then departed, returning for a supporting role in the Series 4 finale in 2008, and then having a brief cameo in The End Of Time: Part 2 in 2010.

She also featured in the 2013 special The Day Of The Doctor, playing a different character, The Moment, which had taken on Rose's image. In 2019, she reprised the role of Rose for Big Finish, headlining the aforementioned The Dimension Cannon.

Away from Doctor Who, Piper is most famous for the late 2000s ITV2 drama Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, which is notable for Doctor Who fans because there's an episode where she has sex with Matt Smith. Small world.

In 2014, she began a recurring role in horror series Penny Dreadful, and most recently, she starred in Sky Atlantic's I Hate Suzie, a critical hit which Piper also co-created. Series 2 is set to begin filming in 2022.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
