3. Peter Davison Theme 1981-1984

doctor5opening The theme actually changed for Tom Baker's last season, but this music was known as the Davison soft rock theme. It was a definite turning point for the show. A Doctor's youthful face developing from stars in the starfield and zoomed towards the viewer. This wasn't a bad theme at all. For the 80's, this was the best one by far. Most older fans do prefer the darker, slow and moody tones of the Second Doctor or Fourth Doctor theme compared to this one, but to someone who grew up with this particular Doctor or later, chances are they do like these themes. The theme music for Colin Baker was the same as the Davison era up to Trial of a Timelord. The title sequence however changed instantly by The Twin Dilemma, Colin's first full episode. It still had the starfield, but they added more color to the background, and it had a rippling effect to it.
