Doctor Who: 5 Best Versions of the Iconic Theme

1. Patrick Troughton Theme Sequence-1966-1969

seconddoctoropening After much thought, number one had to go to Patrick Troughton. It's not to disrespect William Hartnell at all. In fact, there would be no Doctor Who theme sequence without Hartnell. But Patrick's era is the one where the theme really began to take form for those that follow after. They added more details to the background, and the viewer for the first time, sees the Doctor's friendly face appear. And it's a lovely face too, it's not too serious, but he's got a slight smile to his introduction. Patrick Troughton's theme compared to Hartnell's is slightly more upbeat, and it's built up the foundation for the themes used for the 3rd and 4th Doctors, with slight changes for each one of course. Some changes are noticeable, while others are hardly even there. These are the five best versions, simply based on each one has their own unique look and sound. They all feature the face of the beloved Doctor, and these versions are most likely the most memorable for most fans, the Matt Smith version for the younger generation of fans and the Troughton, Pertwee, Baker and Davison versions for those who remember the beginning, or the middle, or even, sadly the end. Either way, the themes had gone through changes throughout the years, just like the Doctor. Sometimes people didn't like the change, some people got used to it, and some just don't care, they just wanted to watch the show.
