Doctor Who: 5 Big Finish Crossovers We Need To Hear Now

1. John Hurt And Derek Jacobi

Doctor Who has an excellent and terrible habit of casting the greatest acting talents of the age, who are often too busy to commit to the series, for iconic roles. Not only did we see it in 2013 with John Hurt’s spectacular turn as the mayfly War Doctor, we finally got to see the fabulous Derek Jacobi take on the Master for live-action TV only to have him regenerate after two minutes of screen time. Jacobi summoned more menace in those 120 seconds than Eric Roberts’s Master did in eighty-odd minutes.

Big Finish has done the same thing in the past but, thanks to the audio format, they need only book these actors for two days and can get a good three or four stories out of it. John Hurt currently makes regular appearances headlining the War Doctor box-sets and Jacobi has worked with Big Finish as recently as December 2015. It would be a tragedy if these two couldn’t be bought together as the Doctor and the Master to face off with their velvety voices.

This does present a wee continuity fluff, since the Tenth Doctor didn’t recognise Professor Yana or even know that the Master had been resurrected for the Time War. But that can easily be explained away and is a very small impediment for what could be an awesome clash of characters.
