Doctor Who 60th Anniversary: Predicting Chances Of Every Doctor Returning

8. The Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy)

Doctor Who Thirteenth Doctor Tenth Doctor
BBC

Like Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy is one of those Doctors who people don't feel particularly strongly about, despite being great in the role.

And like Colin Baker, McCoy has also got a certain level of baggage - in his case, the show's 1989 cancellation - that might make RTD think twice before picking up the phone.

However, a crucial difference between McCoy and Baker is that McCoy doesn't really have unfinished business with the show. Where a return for Baker could be used to redeem the Sixth Doctor's image, McCoy doesn't have that need - people like him as the Doctor, and people generally like his era.

What's more, he actually got a complete era - including a proper regeneration - something that Baker didn't.

Basically, the Seventh Doctor is fine where he is. People aren't shouting for him to return, and although nobody would complain if we saw him again, it just doesn't feel like a 60th return is on the cards.

Chances: 2/10.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
