Doctor Who: 8 Things We Know About The Next Three Episodes

8. The Doctor Is Still A Sceptic

€œI have been alive a very long time, and I have yet to meet a ghost or a god that didn€™t turn out to be€ I don€™t know, sentient gas? Or technology masquerading as magic? This is no demon. Or ghost. Or curse. And I will show you it.€ €“ The Doctor, Mummy On The Orient Express
Although the Doctor€™s reaction to meeting Robin Hood was partly fuelled by his ego, he is fundamentally a sceptic. Present him with anything remotely out of the ordinary and he will start cooking up a scientific explanation for it. And it looks like even being faced with a mummy that kills within 66 seconds while stranded onboard the Orient Express in space isn€™t going to change that. While the true nature of the Mummy and how the Doctor will ultimately deal with it have yet to be revealed; the bottom line is that, as per usual, at least initially he€™s not going to budge for a single second on the possibility that he might be fighting something that can€™t be explained. And since something that happens at the climax of Episode 8 causes Clara to leave the Doctor, it could very well tie into the kind of blustering scientific attitude that the above quote shows is still very much present in the character.
