Doctor Who: 9 Things You Didn't Realise About Series 1 Of NuWho

9. Blast From The Past

2005 heralded the long overdue televisual return of Doctor Who and, luckily for the show, there was a whole new generation of fans ready and waiting to step aboard the TARDIS for adventures anew. Long time viewers were already aware that the Doctor had previously played a significant part in the legacy of British television but the titular Time Lord has been popping up throughout the whole of history in general, too. Narratively speaking, of course. This was one of the first facts that NuWho used to help introduce the Doctor to his new 21st century audience. Unsurprisingly the Doctor has been noticed throughout his travels and, if you know where to look, there's plenty of historical documentation confirming that our hero was present at some of the most important historical events in human history. He'll never be done saving us. This served as Rose Tyler's - and subsequently our - way into the Doctor's weird and wonderful world. Shortly after her first encounter with the Ninth Doctor, a nifty Internet search led her to Clive, a conspiracy theorist, who devoted his spare time to the ongoing escapades of a certain Time Lord. He had collected various drawings and photographs over the years, one of which appeared to depict the Ninth Doctor as part of the crowd who witnessed President John F. Kennedy's assassination. The assassination can be linked to Doctor Who off screen, too. Taking place on 22nd November 1963, which was the day before Doctor Who aired for the first time, the series' subsequent premiere was inevitably overshadowed by the historical event, although reports that the first episode was delayed due to news coverage are largely exaggerated. In fact, the airing of the episode was just over a minute late, beginning at 5:16pm, so all's well that ends well, as they say.
