Doctor Who Big Finish: Complete Dalek Universe Review
5. The Lost
Dalek Universe 2 definitely slows down the pace of this series, but that's by no means a criticism. The character driven moments has excelled this series just as much as the spectacular action pieces. And now we reach another finale, where the series takes its greatest risk.
After the action, darkness and tragedy of the last story, we once again slow down for a character driven adventure, where both Tennant and Slavin can really shine.
This story is properly atmospheric, dealing with some high sci-fi concepts. But the main highlight is the relationship of the Doctor and Anya deepening. These two have a history as mentioned, and they've never had the chance to stop and talk about it since the series has begun, so nows the time. Anya betrayed the Doctor, and he has his own secret with her family. The Doctor was once involved with Anya's aunt Sara, and was present when she died, something he's neglected to tell her.
The ending of this story is once again glorious, where you can clearly see where the Tenth Doctor is in his life, after this story has been exploring our character's pasts. And once more we get an exciting cliffhanger, with a Dalek message of "Hello Sweetie"...
A gripping ending to this boxset, which really brings Tenth and Anya closer.
