Doctor Who Big Finish: Complete Dalek Universe Review
3. The Dalek Defence
After we've build up the relationships of our leading characters in the last two sets, the finale is free to simply be an epic action packed adventure! The Doctor and co are being pursued by the Daleks, and Davros is being held in the cargo bay.
Journey's End is arguably one of Tennant's finest hours, largely due to his confrontation with Davros, so to take this incarnation back to a younger Davros, portrayed by the exceptional Terry Molloy, is an absolute treat. During the Tenth Doctor's time on screen, and the RTD era as a whole, the Daleks had a very tight knitted arc, dealing with the fall out of the Time War, so to see him face against Daleks before this time makes for really unique storytelling.
Whilst sound design is always of the finest quality at Big Finish, it especially is with this space epic. The script and sound design feels so immersive that you can easily get lost in this fifty-five minute adventure and find yourself lost in the Dalek Universe.
And at the end, the stage is perfectly set for the finale., giving us one last perfect cliffhanger, that really pulls the rug out from under you.
A proper thrill ride as the Tenth Doctor is facing Davros once more,
