Doctor Who: Every 9th Doctor Episode Ranked Worst To Best
1. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
Steven Moffat's World War II, gas mask zombie episodes of Doctor Who are the definitive 9th Doctor story. It boasts a watertight script, a genuinely terrifying monster and plenty of opportunities for Eccleston to shine as the Doctor.
It was considered in 2014 by the readers of Doctor Who Magazine as the best story of season one, and Christopher Eccleston himself has proclaimed them as his favourite episodes in various interviews.
There are so many firsts in this two-parter. We are treated to the first appearance of fan favourite Captain Jack Harkness. The episodes also features a cheerful ending, the first instance of no fatalities in the new season, as the Doctor remarks "Everybody lives, Rose!" And, most importantly, this is perhaps the first time Doctor Who had the newest generation of children crawling behind their sofas.
These episodes are iconic, nightmare-inducing and pure fun across the whole 90-minute runtime. Fantastic.
