Doctor Who: Every Master Story In The New Series Ranked Worst To Best

Showrunner Steven Moffat needed to pull something special out of the bag for his last ever series finale and he absolutely went above and beyond for this one. Few would argue that this a hot contender for the best finale in the entire show.

The Cybermen are back, their dark genesis portrayed with a much welcome horror vibe. Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie, and Matt Lucas are on top form as the core TARDIS team, running the full gamut of emotions with wonderful performances all round.

And, of course, we have Michelle Gomez and John Simm playing opposite each other in the first ever multi-Master story in the television show’s history. The two Masters manage to feel like they’re playing the same character, while also showing how different they are.

While Simm scoffs at Capaldi’s career-defining speech about doing what’s right, it melts Gomez’s heart and she finally decides to stand with the Doctor. It of course ends the only way it really could, with one Master shooting the other in the back.

This is the peak of the character and we can only hope that the Doctor’s old friend and nemesis can reach these character heights again.
