Doctor Who: Every NuWho Cyberman Story Ranked Worst To Best

3. World Enough And Time/The Doctor Falls

The Evolution Of The Cybermen Doctor Who
BBC

Peter Capaldi has previously stated that the Cybermen are his favourite Doctor Who monsters, so it's no surprise that they featured as the main villain in two of his three series finales. While they were somewhat underwhelming in Death In Heaven, Series 10's World Enough And Time and The Doctor went back to basics (and back into the old costume department) to make the Cybermen great again.

In one of his final stories, the Twelfth Doctor, with help from Nardole, must rescue Bill Potts and save a village on a spaceship from the threat of a Cyber Army and not one, but two incarnations of The Master.

There's plenty to love about this two parter. From the use of time dilation, the return of the Mondasian Cybermen, and the (unfortunately spoiled by the BBC) return of John Simm's Master. The sight of Capaldi's Doctor blowing up Cybermen is a joy to behold and it was a great relief to see Steven Moffat ditch the 'love is the answer' cheat that he had over-used in previous adventures.

At the heart of it all however, is the friendship between Twelve and Bill, While Series 10 does have its ups and downs, the pairs chemistry was a consistent highpoint, so we genuinely care when Bill is seemingly killed and turned into the first ever Cyberman. We also see the full transformation process of the original Cybermn in all its horrific glory. Just hearing the word "Pain" over and over again, sends shivers up everyone's spines.

Capaldi and Moffat's final season may not have been perfect but it sure had one emotional and action-packed ending.
