Doctor Who: Every Russell T Davies Episode Ranked From Worst To Best
13. The Giggle
RTD definitely saved the most spectacular 60th anniversary special till last.
The first forty minutes or so of The Giggle move along really nicely, and setting the story across two timezones, and in the Toymaker’s domain, gives it a truly epic feel.
Neil Patrick Harris absolutely kills it as the Toymaker (even if the decision to double-down on the racist elements of the character was a little odd). And there’s a proper sense of impending doom throughout.
The elephant in the room is, of course, the bi-generation.
Aside from anything else, the day being saved by a literal game of catch, where the Doctor has the advantage because there are two of him, is so damn convenient.
Still, it’s probably the closest we got to RTD’s Marvel movie vision for the show actually working. And it’s infinitely more coherent than the finales that would follow.
