The main thing The End of Time has going against it is that it’s a bit too long.

Lots of Part One feels like it’s treading water. And Part Two has an extra fifteen minutes on the end just so the Doctor can go and say goodbye to his mates.

That said, the added runtime does give it that event television feel, which few subsequent regeneration stories have quite captured.

Basically every scene between the Doctor and Wilf is gold. The cliffhanger is a proper “WTF?!” moment. And the reveal of what “four knocks” means, along with Tennant's regeneration, is one of the most devastating and iconic TV moments of the century.

It could have been a bit neater, sure. The Naismith, Vincocci and Master Race elements are all quite forgettable. But Tennant and Cribbins are absolutely brilliant. It's an epic story, and sent the Tenth Doctor off in style.
