Doctor Who: Every Russell T Davies Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

32. The Devil’s Chord

Doctor Who The Devil's Chord Jinkx Monsoon Maestro

The Devil’s Chord is one of those stories that had everything going for it. There was even talk of it being the show’s first ever musical episode.

What we got was, by comparison, a bit of a damn squib.

Jinkx Monsoon excels as Maestro, delivering a performance that’s both camp and terrifying. But it’s essentially just a series of set pieces with no real through line.

It’s also a Beatles episode that the Beatles are barely in. And the supposed “lost chord” ends up just being a simple chord of C, that literally anyone could have come up with.

Still, that’s nothing compared to the abomination that is the Twist at the End – a musical number that has absolutely nothing to do with the plot and goes on for far, far too long.

Honestly, it’s a miracle anyone came back the following week.
