Doctor Who: Hide Review - 8 Little Pieces To Consider

2. You Are The Lantern

The way she sings And her brightly coloured rings Make her the princess of the sky. €“ lyrics from €œThe Thoughts of Mary Jane€, by Nick Drake After the Doctor discovers that the ghost is actually displaced time traveler HIla Tukurian, he informs Emma Grayling that she is the one who must bring Hila home. It turns out that the reason Emma was so sensitive to Hila€™s plight is that they are related. Hila is her (some large number of) great-granddaughter. €œBlood calling to blood. Out of time.€ The Doctor tells them. Then he repeats something Emma told Clara earlier. €œNot everything ends. Not love. Not always.€ We€™ve had allusions to Susan, the Doctor€™s granddaughter, earlier in the series. Could Clara somehow be connected to Susan? Is Clara the lantern? Could Susan be trying to call to the Doctor out of time? Susan was, after all, the first companion. She was returned to Gallifrey but left on 22nd century Earth. The Doctor has stated before that his family was lost but perhaps he was lying to protect Susan. Or has he deliberately made himself forget Susan?
