Doctor Who: Matt Smith's 10 Greatest Moments

7. Flesh and Stone-€œI Wish I€™d Known You Better.€

FLesh and Stone There is a line in the Doctor Who Christmas special €˜A Christmas Carol€™, said by Matt Smith-€œIn 900 years, I€™ve never met anyone who wasn€™t important before.€ This single moment is exemplary of the entire thought process behind Doctor Who, of the glory of people through the eyes of this magical being. This is perfected in the season 5 episode €˜Flesh and Stone€™, which feature the most terrifying villains ever to face the Doctor, the Weeping Angels, stone monsters that can only move when they€™re not being looked at. This leads to some of the most horrifying stories of the show€™s canon, and an equally terrifying true life story by Moffat (which I highly recommend is looked up), including the season 5 two-parter €˜The Time of Angels€™ and its conclusion, this episode. In the episodes, the Doctor, Amy, and River accompany a fallen spacecraft that got itself stuck with a Weeping Angel on board, and happened to crash in a place where multiple Weeping Angels get created and begin to terrorize. On the side of the story where the Doctor ends up, one of the men on the ship becomes trapped by an angel, whom is held at bay by the Doctor. The man accepts his fate, and asks the Doctor to let the angel have his way. The Doctor€™s goodbye to the man is heartbreaking, as he recognizes the greatness of this fallen soldier, and gives him a soldier€™s goodbye. This was the part of the story where Moffat brings multiple British tears to multiple British eyes.
