Doctor Who Review: Listen - 10 Ways The New Doctor Is Revealed
6. The Doctor Has Repressed Memories
Shielding our minds from traumatic events is a coping mechanism. Some things are so huge we must hide from them at the time they happen or we risk losing ourselves. There is nothing shameful about this. It is sometimes the only way to survive. The memories are still there though and one way or another they will eventually surface. They must be faced or we are liable to become the monster we are afraid of. It is time for the Doctor to grow up. He may have run away from Gallifrey but he was running toward a greater purpose. The Doctor can no longer pretend he was never a soldier or that he hasnt hurt people. He must accept all parts of himself, even the ones he doesnt like. The thing hiding in the shadows is his own darkness.
