Doctor Who Revolution Of The Daleks: 10 Huge Talking Points After The New Year Special

2. Will We See Ryan And Graham Again?

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who thought the Doctor was giving Ryan and Graham a phone, a hotline to the TARDIS, just as the Tenth Doctor did for Martha. The psychic paper was a more appropriate gift, given that the Doctor knows she cannot stop her fam from following their instincts to be protectors of planet Earth. It is a symbol of her trust in them to be able to do the job without her. This leaves a potential reunion less probable than it was for Martha Jones.

With Yaz’s roots still in Sheffield, however, there is surely a strong possibility that the fam will team up again as some point, even if only for one or two adventures. We have surely not seen the last of Yaz’s family, and surely neither Graham nor Ryan would be able to keep away if they find out she has returned. It would not be a surprise to learn that they had been looking out for the Khan’s in Yaz’s absence.

The special ended with a lovely closure to Graham and Ryan’s story, going back to where it began with Ryan learning to ride a bike. The fact that they could both see the ‘ghost’ of Ryan’s Nan was a beautiful moment of resolution. We don’t need to see them again. We know that they will be okay. We know that they have left the TARDIS stronger and more together than they were before they encountered the Doctor. They could still play a role in Yaz’s unfinished story, and it would be no surprise to see them again.
