Doctor Who Series 10: Everything You Need To Know

1. A New Start With A Lighter Tone

After Series 9’s darker and less family-friendly tone put off some viewers (don’t worry, I'm not going to bring out the line graph of falling ratings), Steven Moffat has promised a lighter approach for Series 10. This gag-heavy tone is evident in clips we’ve seen of the Doctor and Bill’s snappy bantering, and in the casting of talented comic actor Matt Lucas to finish off the new TARDIS team.

It’s also going to be a fresh start, separate from what’s come before. The first few episodes seem to be introducing us to every aspect of the Doctor Who world from Bill’s perspective – her first step into the TARDIS, followed by trips into both past and future – with her being entirely new to all of this and questioning it incessantly. Hopefully not too incessantly.

This change in tone will separate Moffat’s final series as showrunner from his previous ones; after all, he never intended to stay on for this series but only did so to allow Chris Chibnall to finish off Broadchurch before taking over Who. Nevertheless, new viewers, or old ones who’ve drifted away, may find Series 10 to be a perfect jumping-on point.
