Doctor Who Series 12: Everything We Know So Far

6. It Will Consist Of 10 Main Episodes

Following the exact same structure as Series 11, it appears as though Series 12 will again consist of ten episodes.

While the BBC has not yet officially confirmed this number, information compiled from the CVs of Series 12's crew members shows that they're only working on ten main episodes, and really, it just makes sense that Chibnall (and the BBC) would want to continue with the same series format that he used last time.

Ever since Christopher Eccleston took the reigns in 2005, each Doctor Who series has had more than ten episodes, so the Whittaker era is an outlier in that regard. Why this decision was made is unclear, though it's likely because the show's new cinematic look is more expensive to produce, and having less episodes means that more money and resources can be spent on each individual story.

In addition, Whittaker's episodes lean further towards 50 minutes in length, as opposed to the more common 45 minutes seen with the other recent Doctors.
