Doom Patrol Season 1 Premiere Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs
5. The (Mostly) Strong Production Values
From the show's glossy opening titles onwards, it's clear that a decent chunk 'o change has been poured into it, and aside from the sometimes rough visual effects, its production quality is a major credit to superhero TV shows.
For starters, the cinematography is slickly cinematic at all times and lacks the flat TV aesthetic that's so prevalent in these series (especially Marvel's Netflix shows). It feels like every image has been carefully composed rather than rushed through to meet a schedule.
The general production design is also terrific, with the various sets helping make the world feel truly alive, vibrant and distinct from our own. That it can weave all this together with heroes who, frankly, should look ridiculous is mightily impressive.
