5. Battlestar Galactica (1978)

Dirk Benedict! Richard Hatch! Lorne Greene! Jane Seymour and a clunky looking robotic dog! Back in 1978, attempting to ride the coat tails of Star Wars and Star Trek, Glen A. Larson launched Battlestar Galactica, the tale of a lone warship that becomes the shepard of a rag-tag fleet of human survivors, fleeing genocide from the insidious, metallic Cylons.

The production for the initial pilot movie (sometimes called 'Saga of a Star World') was, at the time, the most expensive made-for-TV-movie in history, weighing in at $8 million. The show wasn't without controversy either, with George Lucas himself taking aim at the series and suing for copyright Infringement as well as against the toy line.

Despite all this, the original 1978 series still holds a dear place in many people's hearts, with the camp aesthetic and delightfully dated effects reminiscent of an era long-gone in television production. While it didn't last long and it's sequel series ranks in last place on this list, there's still a glint in the eye of the old series yet.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
